Identity & Connection

My name is Apo Ratumudu. I was born and raised in Fiji, where I grew up surrounded by the rich culture and close knit island community. In 2015, I made the move to New Zealand to further my education and explore new opportunities beyond the islands. Since then, I’ve embraced the challenges and growth that have come with starting a new chapter in a different country.

Papatoetoe has become a second home to me. For the past six years, I’ve been working in the fitness industry here, and in that time, I’ve connected with so many incredible people from the local community. It’s more than just a place I work, it's where I’ve built meaningful relationships and found a sense of belonging. With all my family and close friends still back home in the islands, some of the people I’ve met in Papatoetoe have become the closest thing to family, and I’m truly grateful for the support and connection this community has given me.

I’ve been part of the Papatoetoe community for over six years now, and it’s played a huge role in shaping the person I am today. Being here has given me more than just a place to work, it's connected me with amazing people, supportive local businesses, and mentors who have guided me both professionally and personally. The strong sense of community in Papatoetoe has helped me grow in confidence, build lasting relationships, and develop a deep appreciation for the power of local connection. It’s a place that has truly poured into me, and I’m proud to be part of it.

Storytelling & Voice

One of my proudest moments in Papatoetoe has been finally opening up my own local gym right here in the heart of the community. It’s been quite a journey to get to this point filled with challenges, growth, and a lot of hard work but every step has been worth it. After working in the area for four years prior, there was no doubt in my mind that Papatoetoe was the only place I wanted to build something of my own. Being able to give back to the community that has given me so much makes this accomplishment even more meaningful.

“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” This is something I live by. I’ve learned that I can’t do everything on my own, and I’m proud of the team that stands beside me and helped me get to where I am today. Never be afraid to ask for help. There are people out there with the experience, knowledge, and heart to guide you, support you, and help you avoid the mistakes they’ve already made. Success is never a solo journey.

Purpose & Passion

My purpose and passion in life is to help people become the best version of themselves through fitness. I truly believe I was brought to this earth to support and guide as many individuals as possible in achieving their goals in the gym. Over the past six years working in the fitness industry, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and working with over 1,000 people, each with their own story and journey. To be even a small part of that process whether it’s helping someone gain confidence, improve their health, or simply feel better about themselves is something I consider an absolute blessing.

One of the proudest things in my life isn’t tied to a single moment. it’s in the everyday routine that so many take for granted. For me, every day is a blessing. While a lot of people complain about their jobs, I feel lucky to do something I love. The hardest part of my day is waking up at 4:00am, but the moment I walk into the gym and start that first class at 4:45am, I’m filled with energy and purpose. That’s how I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be educating people through fitness, helping them grow stronger, and watching them become better every single day. That feeling never gets old.

Work & Contribution

My work revolves around helping people improve their health and fitness through BFT training, a program I truly believe is one of the best fitness models out there. BFT, or BodyFit Training, is designed for everyday people no matter their age or fitness level. It’s the perfect blend of strength and cardio, focusing on functional movements that prepare you for real-life activities. The goal isn’t just to look good, but to build a strong, resilient body that can handle whatever life throws your way. It's about creating fitness that lasts and supports you in everyday living.

My work goes far beyond just running workouts; it's about bringing people together and building a true sense of community. Through fitness, we unite strangers from all walks of life, different backgrounds, cultures, shapes, sizes, and experiences, and create a space where everyone feels welcomed and supported. It’s powerful to see so many different faces coming together each day, all working toward the same goal: becoming better, stronger, and healthier. That’s the heart of what we do, creating connection, belonging, and a shared purpose through movement.

If you’re looking to connect with us or show your support, we’d love to have you! Chances are you’ve already heard the loud music, felt the good energy, or seen the 4:45am high-fives echoing through Papatoetoe, that's us! But if you haven’t met us yet, come visit us at 9 Dunnotar Road, Papatoetoe, right across from your uncle and aunty’s favourite meeting spot, the Cozzy Club. Legacy & Hopes

Personally it’s the heart of daily life, bringing together people from all walks of life who support and uplift each other. The strong sense of belonging, combined with local businesses, community events, and shared traditions, creates a welcoming atmosphere that feels like family. Papatoetoe isn’t just a suburb it’s a living, breathing community full of stories, connection, and endless potential.
